Like economizers, superheaters are also available in several design variations. In many situations, superheaters are combined with an economizer tube bundle in a single structure.

Tubes, fins, and casings are made of carbon steel or of a suitable alloy materials based on temperature application. Depending on service requirements, superheaters may incorporate either solid or serrated type, continuously resistance welded fins of varying material grades. Special design features may isolate pressure welds from the gas stream or a floating tubesheet design may be used. As always, header configurations can be designed to meet the customers piping requirements.

Superheaters normally operate at elevated temperatures. Stringent designs are incorporated to minimize the effect of thermal expansion due to the higher operating temperature.
